Nordstrand Drop in Replacement EMG sized Passives - Gauging interest

Hey guys,

I've been in discussion with the guys at Nordstrand and I should be testing a pair of drop in 707 sized passives from them. Would anyone else be interested in them? I'll be doing 707 sized routes in my latest build which will be replaced by the passives.

If the 707 size replacement turns out to be something people want, the 808 routes could also easily have a drop fit replacement.

We're also not talking 200 bucks a pickup by the way, no pickup rings and no ugly open spaces in the route. I'd be very surprised if if they were more than 100 -120 a pop.

Anyways, let me know. If no one's interested, I'll just drop the idea.

Same here. I'm always interested in trying out new pickups. Especially if they can fit into my routed guitar.

If the Nordstrands in Crucified's Sherman 8 are any indication then these are going to look and sound sweet I would love to see these.

but it would be a lot nicer if EMG just didn't fuck the dog on that one and made 7 strings that were the same size as every other pickup on the market

Personally, I hate the idea, but purely from the perspective that I don't want anyone justifying EMG's ridiculous, non-standard pickup routes. I want EMG to eventually realize the error of their ways, and start manufacturing pickups in a standard sized housing.

However, from an end user perspective, this is great news indeed. I just don't understand why you are having a new guitar routed for 707s, when you are just going to put passive pickups in it.

I'd like EMG to realize that too as it's completely stupid, but the hoards of people that have Hellraisers, Loomis', LTDs and the like that just dont' have that option and only have the Blackouts to turn to. The pickups would be done in a per order basis, not as a stock model though.

I'm actually routing the guitar I'm building (see my thread in sig) because I actually want to put EMG's in it. I can make another body inside of a day so it's no big deal to me. The Nordstrands would be dropped afterwards into my guitar for more of display and proof of concept for Nordstrand. If people dig it, they'll finally have a passive option for their 707 routed guitars that doesnt' involve giant pickup rings or having ugly space around a normal 7 string pickup. I'll also have a matched set of 707 size Nordstrands for sale soon after to members of this board.

I really like working with the Nordstrand guys and I'd like to see them get more business. I haven't had the opportunity to make solid business connections in the industry like a lot of the guys (Sherman, Roter, TIL) and I'm hoping to have this become somewhat of a business for myself sometime next year.

I like the idea. I personally (and i'm probably the only one) prefer the 707 route, and style. I think it looks, much, much cleaner and better. I actually wish all pickups would be like 707s, where you wouldn't need pickup rings or anything like that, just a nice clean route.

Personally... I like the way 707's look in a guitar. But I also like pickup rings, and they're bigger than a 707, but the look of a 707 is cool IMO.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this produced for my project 7.
