![]() ![]() | Which pickups should I throw in the UV? Alright, considering I will always be changing my mind, and am perfectly happy with my UV apart from the trem and broken pickguard, I was given some very good advice to just mod it out. So that's what I'm doing. Hipshot fixed bridge, new paint, stripping out the coil, and new humbuckers. Maybe this is blasphemy to some purists, but this will truly make it feel like MY UV. ANYWAY, on to the point.... What humbuckers should I throw in it? The 3 biggest options are 707's, Blackouts, or some kind of DiMarzio's. I'm playing metal. I love chunk, but I do utilize many runs and sweeps in my playing. So, I'm looking for tone quality, clarity, and versatility. There's the poll. Have fun! And, if there are any others that anyone recommends (I don't have the money for Lundgrens, thanks ) Then post them on here!!Once again, thank you for being patient with my indecisiveness. I promise it will be over someday. ![]() |

Try the Duncans first, and if you don't like them, flip them. You're not going to lose that much money by trying and hating them, and you have a lot to win if you like them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | well, the EMGs are going in a UV. he just needs a new pickguard later if he wants to try something else. i have to say it still baffles me why anyone would even consider EMGs for a seven string anymore with the Blackouts available and all the incredible boutique passives available. if EMGs are YOUR sound and you can't live with anything else, knock yourself out then. but if you're not 100% sure of what you want, i don't why they would even be considered because of the major routing work that has to be done. also, another mod i noticed you wanna do is a Hipshot fixed bridge. why not just get a Tremol-no and lock the trem down? btw, i'm not a UV purist at all, and couldn't care less what anyone does to their guitars. there's just a lot of easier and more practical ways to get the results you want. |

![]() Plus, I would think with more wood rather than locked metal, you'd get a more solid sustain. Personally, I'd go with the EMGs. I have tried the Blackouts, and while they are nice pickups indeed, I prefer the more compressed tone that the EMGs give me. I'm not saying anything bad about them, just my opinion. And I've never had an issue with routing a guitar, especially if I'm modding it to hell anyways. ![]() So if you'd like a little more dynamics and highs in your sound, go with the Blackouts, if you like more compression like I do, go for the EMGs. Both give a very nice output and clear tone for the lower strings. FS: Engl E530 Tube Preamp. | |

![]() ![]() | Okay, let me clarify: I don't know if I am going to route it or not. That's why I made this poll. I haven't even started yet. I just wanted to see what everyone's opinion was on pickups. I honestly have been leaning more toward the blackouts than EMGs, but I just wanted to hear some other opinions first, especially on passives. I really appreciate everyone's advice so far, I know it's kind of a crazy thing to do, so thanks for bearing with me! |

![]() | I would strongly recommend against adding a fixed bridge because if you fill that floyd hole with anything it will sound like so i would just get a t-no and lock it down ![]() Each guitarist has an evil fat 40 year old blueswankler trying to get out, If you give in to temptation you'll be sitting next to a fender playing john lee hooker while trying to keep your combover in place. - Desecrated |
