Just pondering this all of a sudden, but do you guys find that this irrational hatred of 7s has all but dissapeared? It's been a while since I've heard anyone, even on message boards, make ignorant comments.

What do you think?

Apologies if it's been done before. Not trying to stir anything up mind you, just musing, but if it's likely to cause annoyance, then by all means lock it up, because that's not my intentions.

There is always going to be a little, but since the 8-strings came along people have concentrated on them, the 7-strings doesn't seem so crazy anymore.

Thats why we need more production 10-strings guitar and basses.

lolol i dont see why people could dislike em cos basically there just sayin the same to 6 strings xD imo 7's are the exact same as 6's apart from * drum roll* they have an extra string lolol which is an advantage i think but thats just me lols

I agree though, while its still out there, the kornbizkit flaming about 7 strings has definitely been in a good lull for a while, which i for one appreciate

That might have helped to,. until all the metalcore bands start using 7 or 8-strings and the hate starts again.

I notice less disdain when I post rig/guitar pigs in other places, theres still the odd "I barely know what to do with 6", to which I think, learn how to play the damn thing then. But still, I don't see the majority of people hating on them like I used to. I think a lot more GOOD bands are using them now which are getting exposure, rather than the only exponents before being Korn and their ilk

iv never had the whole "7s suck!" thing aimed at me personaly
ya it exists and iv seen it round but where ever i go and anyone who sees my 7s always see it as a WTF!??!! WOWZERZ positive reaction
maybe i just been lucky

altho i do have 1 student who doesnt like 7s and said theyr pointless
til i explained they are just a 6 with an extra string
then he came back with "just makes it harder to use"
to which i replied
"Is it? or is it just your stuberness to learn"
then he saw the light - even tho he still doesnt like em, he at least understands them

I still see hints of it on more "conservative" guitar boards, usually among older players who spout the "who needs an extra string?" attitude. Since nu-metal is long gone, I don't see much of the "it's just a bunch of kids playing low power chords" attitude anymore, though.

Either way, if someone doesn't get 7-string guitars, I consider it their loss and just move on.
