apparently not, because the jackson kelly got all the hate in the world when it came out
You should always measure your guitar against a gibson or fender, if it doesn't have the exact same shape, number of strings, pickups and color it is not tru0. O, and you have to get one of them fender barstool to match your tweed jacket and combover. |

An exerpt from the guitar bible: "And the Lord said that guitars must be between 24.75" and 25.5" in length with no more or no less than 6 strings with the body shapes and designs provided by our forefathers in the great tradition of the golden era that lasted from 1930 to 1975. There must be 22 frets if it is an electric and 19 frets if it is an acoustic. Any guitar that does not adhere to these rules is an abomination in the eyes of the one true God." Amen. Whhhaaat?! You built a ei... eight-string guitar... with a 30" scale...!? HAVE YOU NO RESPECT FOR THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY?!?! |

I've had to explain a few times why I'd have a 7 string. Usually they seem to get it after a quick explanation, but I've been told to 'just get a bass' on occasion too.

My friend says 7 strings are just "hassle" he sees re-stringing an extra string as a big dis-advantage... but then i look at his poorly set up Ibanez RG320 with the bridge trying desperately to escape from the body completely, finish explaining what scale length means, and realize he should never be let near seven strings. It's a pity because he's an alright player, he just knows nothing about what he's actually playing.

for some reason i've got this image if you saying this whilst in a full lotus position, mildly levitating infront of a candelit shrine. to be honest, i can fully understand the hatred of 7 string guitars if they're not black as an abyss that's fallen into a cave in the middle of the night. H |

Probably the most insulting and ignorant thing I was asked was, "You haven't mastered a 6, why play a 7?" I dunno, maybe because I dont feel like mastering one instrument before moving to another. My response was, "Is there anyone that has truly MASTERED the guitar? Mastered is a reaaaally broad term."
To answer the question, I think people still have their opinions, but they have become much more quiet about 7's since the 8's came out. And, since they realized that KoRn is about 10-11 years old, and no one cares about them anymore. ![]() |

The other guitarist in my band basically thinks 7 strings are a "joke" and a "fad." He doesn't see, appreciate, or understand why someone would use one. He tried telling me they would be phased out in a few years. Of course, I listed a bunch of artists off the top of my head that play 7 and 8 strings, but nothing really sinks in with him.
The dude is pretty much the staple of ignorance though, so I guess he lives in bliss. He will only play Fender or Gibson guitars because according to him, they are the best because they have been around the longest. Its funny because he is willing to drop $1-2K on a guitar, but he is a cheap ass on his rig and cables. Whatever though, we will be/are writing some songs in A. He can play his 6 string Les Pauls while I play my 7's. |
