The switch that's kinda off by itself is a phase switch that reverses hot/ground on the middle pickup. I just recently modded the other two however. They used to be a bridge and neck coiltap, but I re-wired in a somewhat more complicated but tonally more capable way: Neck coiltap switch (used to be a 2 position on/on DPDT) is now a 3 position DPDT on/off/on switch that coiltaps both humbuckers at the same time. The positions are Main coils/humbucking/"slug" coils, so you can get either mellow cleans or biting cleans depending on which coils you choose to tap into. Bridge coiltap switch is still a two position on/on DPDT switch but instead of coiltapping anything, instead is a "bridge-always-on" switch. In the up position, the 5 way blade operates in normal condition (B/BM/M/MN/N). In the down position (thrown) the 5 way blade always has the bridge pickup running so it operates B/BM/BM/BMN/BN. The bridge-always-on switch also works with the coiltap switch, so no funny surprises. Wiring actually wasn't too difficult, all the wiring diagrams are up on carvin's website so it was pretty easy. And the JSX settings: Presence: 6 Resonance: 10 (I love me some boom) Master volume: <1 (cause apartments suck) Noise Gate: 0 (the noise gate is terrible and just sucks your tone out) ULTRA CHANNEL Treble: 7 Mid: 4.5 Bass: 7 Gain: 5.25 ish Volume: 6 Fat switch: on CRUNCH CHANNEL (run with OD as clean boost) Treble: 8 Mid: 4 Bass: 7 Gain: 7 Vol: 6 Fat switch: on CLEAN CHANNEL Treble: 9 (it's a dark channel, believe me) Mid: 4.75 Bass: 5.5 Volume: 3.5 And always use High Gain input. ...Always. ![]() and more sexytime pix ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by virstulte; 04-26-2008 at 09:53 PM. ![]() ![]() | Question, I see you have dragonburst and when you go to carvin's guitar builder, the finish is called "Deep Triple Step Dragonburst" but it still allows you to select the "Deep Triple Step" option. So that confuses me. Is this a trick to grab more money, or does it make the Dragonburst darker, like yours? I know yours and HighGain's darker than Bulb's, and all of those are dragonburst. |

![]() | nah the finish is a deep triple step regardless, because they discontinued the original dragonburst finish, which is kinda good because I think it looks horrible, haha, but bulb sure can carry it off. Mine and HighGain's both are the deep triple step. I'm jealous of his lundgrens tho ![]() yeah, d-sonic and air norton here I come, I feel so silly pulling the petrucci fanboy setup but honestly from all the reviews on here, it does sound like the best the best the best combo ever pretty much for my tastes. |
