Custom shops?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get an idea for what custom shops are out there, what are the best for the money and the like. I've decided I want something made for me, and not just production.

Around the summer, or maybe a month or two later, I'm going to commission myself a custom 7 string of some description, and want to have as many options as possible available to me as possible.

A couple of quirks are I want a Floyd, and 27 frets (I aint a super shredder, but I keep writing tracks which go up to that register). I have some vague specs in mind, but nothing definite as of yet.

I'm in the UK so obviously that has to be taken into account to a certain extent.

Depending on the wait time (i.e. how long I've got to pay the installments in), I am looking at anywhere from about £1500-2000 if its domestic/EU based, and if its US based, up to the $3000 mark on the guitar itself (anything up to what would be the £2000/$4000 would be eaten up by import taxes and shipping).

So far, I can think of: -

- Bernie Rico Jr (leaning towards these with the 727 model, and after seeing Nicks sweet customs)
- KXK (any chance he'll be doing actual customs soon, or is everything based upon the SII-7 at the moment?)
- RAN (seem to be a bit pricey now the Euro is up in value against the pound, but still look great guitars)
- Black Machine (not sure if he's into Floyds and 27 fret jobs, so this could be out of bounds, plus probably over my limit)
- Feline Guitars (UK based, heard good things, nothing much else I've heard though)
- LAG (Probably competitively priced, and Stephan Forte's looks gorgeous, but what are they like as a Custom Shop?)

To be honest, this is all I can think of at the moment. Given the price range, is there any others you guys can recommend? Any of the ones above you'd recommend more than the others?

So yeah, £2000 maximum if UK/EU based, $3000 if US based. Any thoughts guys?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but do Agile not just use standard parts and assemble them, almost Warmoth style?

Sorry to Kurt at Rondo if this isn't the case, just want to get the facts straight thats all

Sepultorture is a jewel in the rough
if i were you i'd go with RAN, i live in canada and the euro to the canadian dollar can sometimes get pretty brutal, but still he quoted me a fantastic 7 string at $2900 Canadian.

Yeah, I do know the Euro has shot up against the pound in the past couple of weeks though, so what I want could shoot over the top of my budget. We'll see though

Yep, hence why I have the line about having to think about £500/$1000 less if buying from the US due to the tax and import costs.

quite frankly mate, i've had no end of goodness from sebastian at roter custom guitars with mine.

i can report on it once i receive the finished product which i think will be soon.

extremely comfortable pricing.
