![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The OFR is on the Carvin And this time it feels much better and looks like it's going to stay on. My tech did a great job matching up the radius with saddle shims, and he even trimmed the block so the back cover would be able to go back on. We spent about 1/2 an hour and did about 4 locking nut repositions and I think this time it will be a keeper. The action is actually too low right now so I have to spend some time tweaking it tomorrow but I played her for about an hour tonight and it feels good. String spacing is fine on this one (go figure ).Definitely a smoother feel than the licensed floyd and I got to go to 3 springs from 4 which makes it feel a lot better to me. Now she is complete. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Can I be the devil on your shoulder? ![]() Last edited by kmanick; 04-19-2008 at 09:09 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | did you keep the carvin nut or put the ofr nut on it? im starting to suspect alot of the string spacing issues with this were based on the floyds wider spaced nut (they have 2 spacings for 7's iirc). I also noticed that the bar side of the bridge is not as close to the wall of the route as I'm used to seeing. Did you replace the trem posts? OFR floyd nut is on there, I kept a Licensed nut and I am going to compare them but I think the licensed one is also 1 7/8', I know they (OFR) make a 2" wide nut as well (which I think is what is on the Loomis). Dave, My tech pulled out the ones that were in there and put the new ones in that came with the OFR. I was under the assumption that this had already been done last time I tried this , but maybe my other tech didn't swap them, or he didn't change the sleeves? ![]() This guy I used this time also opened the route in front of the trem a tiny bit, he called me and said that it looked like the other trem that was in there had been rubbing against the front of the route, and that you couldn't see it until you took the bridge out. so he asked me what I wanted to do. I've seen his restoration work on some old San Dimas Charvels that had been Vintage trem'ed to Kahlered that he had restored back to V-trems , and his work was really top notch, so I said go ahead and open the route,so he may have opened it on that side a little bit as well. He buffed it out beautifully, up close it doesn't look like he did any work on the body itself at all. He also did an incredible set up for me ![]() I've never had the action on this guitar so low with zero fret buzz before. I actually need to bring it up a little bit. ![]() He also did something else for me that surprised me. I put a 250K volume pot in a while back to warm up the tone a little and when I dropped off the guitar , he was playiing around on it and he noticed that when he cut the volume from full wide open on the guitar to 7 or 8 the tone got a little muffled. I had noticed this while I was playing a while back but I didn't really give it much thought. He put in a capacitor that keeps the volume sweep much more linear and it actually opend up the sound of the pickups a little bit. They don't muddy up at all anymore while I roll the volume down. I found a real gem of a tech with this guy, he knows his shit , pays attention to detail, will take the time to do customization that is needed(trimmed the floyd block for me ) and he is very reasonable price wise as well.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |
