![]() | Custom 7 materials? Hey all, I am new here. I am 13 and have been playing for 10 years. I am currently building a custom 7 string with https://www.carvinguitars.com/produc...p?product=NT7K and a DiMarzio D Activator 7. My question is, what should I use for the wings and where can I get a 7 string single coil neck pickup for under $100. Also, I found a black hardtail bridge at the eBay store Guitarheadz and I need some black tuners to go with it for a reasonable price. Thanks and sorry if this is the wrong section. ![]() Gear List: *Soon to be, Ibanez RG7321 *Parker Fly Deluxe-Dusty Black *Custom Strat-3 Tone Sunburst *Yamaha RGX 1212s-Red *Yamaha RGX 612a-Black *Yamaha RGX 112-Yellow *Tokai Flying V-Red *Yamaha RBX 774 bass-Black *Peavey ValveKing-50w, 1x12 *Yamaha DG-60-60w,1x12 *Laney LC-15R-15w,1x12 |

![]() | Wood choice is pretty subjective. Generally, mahogany is the wood of choice for rock or metal music because of the warm tone that it offers. With that in mind, some players may choose a different, brighter-sounding wood, such as maple, to balance out the tone in a dark-sounding amp or pickup. From what I've seen and heard, I think that as long as your guitar is built with some kind of quality, tone wood, you'll be ok. Mahogany, maple, basswood, alder and swamp ash are all common choices for the body of a guitar. If you plan on getting a guitar with clear finish, you might want to consider a wood with a more attractive appearance. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, I was one of the three main people driving the seven string movement over there. They pretty much told us that they would never build one, though, because it was too expensive. Many shredders these days just go with the classic basswood body and maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, but if you want something a little classier, you can go with mahogany for a warm, low-mid-rich tone or maple for a bright, upper-mid-rich tone. You can brighten a mahogany body with a maple cap. Ebony fretboards and maple fretboards will give a brightter tone than rosewood. Maple is difficult to say absolutely what it sounds like, but I tend to think that it's a little less bright sounding than ebony. |

![]() | I wish they would build one. I LOVE my Deluxe and if it were made in a 7 stirng format, I would be stoked. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just got an Oni that slays my Parker Deluxe. It is a spruce neckthrough with carbon fiber all over. If you have the scratch for a Parker, it'd be worthwhile to talk with Dan at Oni Guitars. I'll bet he'd be able to build a custom guitar that will satisfy all of your needs. |

i would recommend alder, because it sounds bright yet still punchy in the low end, and alder is always good for an amateur build because it has a closed grain with no open pores which makes it way easier to finish. _actual time_ : prog/math/metal/???? on myspace | |
