Kahn, i've used a spider III and made it sound reasonable - but i'd still upgrade from one before buying a 27+ fret guitar.

Id agree with you that you should consider your amp b4 your guitar, but you also have to look at what kinda playing situation your in. For instance, a non gigging musician would be better suited with a Combo, and a gigging one with a nice Tube Amp Head/Cab.

and as far as combos go, i havent found another amp that can match the quality in the Spider series, lol.

Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL

you havent played any rivera combos i see.
They actually use a slaved 15 w amp for gain and shit when you turn it down, so it always sounds cranked. pretty badass. then, the same amps are WAY more than loud enough to play pretty large venues

Would like to make perfectly clear that I'm not gonna be buying 24+ fret guitar tomorrow or anything, because of low moneyage (which I have to spend on train tickets and King Diamond). I would definitely shell out for a new amp before a guitar, and it would def be a combo valve amp. Oh, and I have played quite a few combo amps that are better than the Spiders.

I'm going to Iowa for an award. Then I'm appearing at Carnegie Hall, it's sold out. Then I'm sailing to France to be honored by the French government. I'd give it all up for one erection. — Groucho Marx

The Turbulence models have 36 frets. The Simulators are the 24 fret models. Both come from the old F-series.

As for ugly, I actually like them visually, but the reason for the design is ergonomics. The extended or is designed to actually wrap-around you a bit, to provide stability, the extended upper rear provides arm support, and the rest of the body is stripped-down to provide balance and reduce overall weight. There's also a leg rest that helps keep the guitar in a neutral position when sitting.

Ray

The Ultimate Question: What string gauge is needed for 18.84# of tension when tuned to E2 on a 27" scale guitar?
