Switching to 7 string after 24 years of playing

Just ordered a Loomis 7. I have been wanting to switch to 7's for a long time, but didn't have the money etc. My band tunes to drop C, but I transposed everything to Standard C. My Question is..... do any of you use the G,C,F,Bb,Eb,G,C tuning on there 7. The 26.5 Scale seems like it would compensate with the string gauges being 10 to 52 with a 60 or 62 on top. String Tension I know is higher the longer the scale so I think this will be fine. Any input would be appreciated.

This is my band if anyone gives a rats ass. MySpace.com - Acts of Violence - Philly, US - Metal / Metal / Metal - www.myspace.com/actsofviolence.

A .060 would be fine for low C but I would something a lot lighter on top like a set of .009 or .0095 gauge strings. It will much easier to play that high G.

Congrats on the Loomis. I love mine.

I'd be looking at 10-52 + a 70 or 68 judging by the tuning, but you may have to experiment a bit.

However, best thing to do is to get the best 6 string gauge for the C tuning, then buy a range of bass strings and try them out to see which one feels best to you!

It takes a while, but once you know what works life is good!

Chalk up another for 10-52 with a 68 or 70 here.

I misread the tuning.

What they said. For low G on a Loomis I would go no lighter than a .070.

Tension calculator to the rescue :
Code:
len 26.5"
C     .010" PL == 11.03#
G,    .013" PL == 10.47#
E,b   .017" PL == 11.27#
B,,b  .030" NW == 17.03#
F,,   .042" NW == 17.9#
C,,   .052" NW == 14.98#
G,,,  .068" NW == 14.78#
total == 97.46#
It's very low tension but if you like it that way it should be fine

Hey man would you do that same calculation with a standard 24.75 scale neck and a six string, same standard C tuning(10-52). Because thats what Im using now, That might help me decide weather to go up gauge or not.
BTW. where do you get a .068? Can you use a nickel roundwound Bass String?
Thanks
