ESP MF-207 Refinish take 2

Alrighty, so the last finish when sprayed with clear was an epic, epic fail:

So I regrouped, tried about four different types of paint, and found one that I really liked. It's not real rust, but now I know the complications with that approach, and I just can't find a way to clear it without ruining the finish. So let's get started with the new textured base coat:

Now after the top coat is applied and textured it leaves us with this:

After a clear coat we get a finish that's not very far from what we have in the previous picture...thankfully.

An up close pic of the finish texture:

It's not what I originally had in mind, but what the hell...I like this too. So as soon as I shoot another coat of clear on it tonight, I'm calling it done. Then I can start re-assembling it and get it to my tech to do a setup and wire up the Blackouts.

I'm about as cool as a fart in a space helmet.

Looks great! Are you doing the headstock the same way or leaving it stock? I really like the finish! Different.

What kind of paint did you use?

Jerry Cantrell is the man!

I want a ziploc rain coat. zepp88

How did you put the texture in? Did you use sponges or something? Looks really unique.

Thanks man! I'm leaving the headstock black. Since all the parts and pieces are black I figure it'll look pretty cool. I'll post up a pic when I start putting it back together.

It's a Rustoleum product called American Accents Rust. It's a craft paint with a spray base coat, and a brush on top coat. You dilute the top coat with water to get different color levels and variations.

I used crumpled up newspaper on it. Newsprint doesn't soak up much liquid , so a lot of the top coat stays on, just with the texture in it. They suggest sponges or paper towels, but the test piece I did with those didn't come out like I wanted them to. Thanks for checking it out!

Aww that's a shame. The rust finish you had before was epic!

In any language that you learn to speak -- love is twisted and defined as weak

TheMissing's GAScon status: GAScon 3... New geetar... But now I need to find a new pickup...

Believe me, if I could have salvaged it I would have. I was so pissed when that got screwed up. But oh well, live and learn I guess.
