![]() | Those with floating tremolos When you string your guitar, do you... A) Clip the ball ends off the strings or B) String the guitar with the string backwards (ball end at headstock) Just wondering if there is a disadvantage to the later. It's typically what I do, because I've had a wound string in the past try to UNwind when I clipped the ball end off. When I clip them after stringing it, coming unwound wouldn't be an issue. Although it's only happened once, there is nothing worse than having your guitar unplayable for a day or two until you can make it back to the musicstore to get another set of strings. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It must have been wound on a round core (as opposed to hex) to unwind like that. Still, you should be able to get it clamped in before that happens. Was it a DR?? |

Honestly I don't remember. But I can tell you that for about 3-4 years I used DR strings exclusively. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | DR are probably the most inconsistent and problematic string I've come across. I cut the ball off, then string it up and cut the excess off at the machinehead. If you leave strings rattling around on the headstock you're a big gayhole. j/k |

![]() | I just finished re-stringing my ESP and for the first time in about 4 years I clipped the strings on the ball end. No problems. I guess I just got a bad taste after that single incident. |

![]() | I string mine backwards w/ the balls at the headstock. I don't have the heart to castrate my strings, so I leave the balls on... ![]() "Go make me a sandwich..." ![]() |
