Washburn WG587 Action
All apologies if this has been discussed, but I have a question for the people out there that have a WG587.
I often like my action extremely low, however, something on the guitar is stopping me from doing that. There seems to be this little plastic thing on the bridge lowering part, and it's not letting me lower the action any more than I have (I like to have it about 1mm from the frets, whereas right now.. I'd say it's like 3 or so mm, which is rather high for me). Has anyone found a way to work around this without damaging the guitar itself? Or am I the only one with this issue? The neck is straight, so thats not the issue. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! |

Any pics of the problem area? I've got a WG587 and I've got no problems with the action.

Can't really get a pic.. No cam lol. But to others that own a WG587, they might know what I'm talking about. On the bridge adjusting screw that holds up the bridge, there's that little plastic thing blocking the bridge from going too low, however, this is the problem. Thats causing it NOT to be able to go low enough. The neck is straight.. So I don't understand why it's there. Think I'm best off getting it pro setup? If so, anyone know how much it'd cost for an action adjustment? I usually refuse to get a pro setup on my guitars, but I can't fix this one. I'll try to get a pic, but I can't guarantee it lol
EDIT: This pic isn't mine, found it somewhere on the net, but it shows my problem area. ![]() As you can see, right below the little screw things to adjust the action is a thing of black plastic (I think it's plastic?) blocking you from adjusting it any lower. The issue with this is, with it on the lowest possible action, it's still a bit high lol. Maybe not for others, but I like my action extremely low (No clue why) and it's difficult for me to play it quickly like that.. So if anyone has any ideas, toss them here :P. I might get a new bridge, but that'd have to wait for another week when I actually have money heh. EDIT2: ... It just nailed me how hard its gonna be to find a 7 string tune-o-matic lol. Well, then I suppose thats not much of an option. |

Alright, but a better workaround might be to file down that piece of plastic blocking it.. That won't negatively affect the guitar in any possible way, will it? I don't mind too much about the value being these guitars are still moderately common and I plan to buy another in the future since this one will be my experiment one lol
Edit: Hmm.. better cooler alternative, anyone know how much it costs to get a floyd rose routed and installed on a non-tremolo guitar? Or is that risky business? I'm hearing prices like 300 so eh, lol not sure what I should do about the thing. |

But I'm not sure if it's a piece of plastic or what.. it's on the bridge, the adjuster for the tune-o-matic.. There's those circle black washers? on the bottom of it, not allowing me to adjust it to the point that it touches the body. I have them as low as they can go, and the action is still much higher than it should be lol. Think this might actually be an issue with the neck? |
