Soloway Swan LN7 Progress Pictures

Hey fellas,

So I've got my first seven string coming soon, and I thought it was about time I shared some pics and became part of the fold.

Top: Black Limba w/ heavy mineral streaking
Back: Light Weight Alder
Neck: 3 piece Maple
Board: Cocobolo w/micro dot inlays
Binding: Tortoise w/black and white purfling
Pickups: (probably) Single Blade CC in the bridge and Double Blade CC in the neck - bevelled ONLY on the bass side of the blades
Electronics: 2 Volume, 2 Tone w/ 3-way switch and no treble bleed caps

Front (before binding):

Front (after binding):

Bound Sound Hole:

Back:

I can hardly wait for this guitar, my LN6 was the most amazing guitar I'd owned - just missing a string - so when this is finished I'll be drivin' down to Vancouver to meet Jim and pick'er up. Now all I need to do is find an amp that will do it justice, right now I'm leaning towards the new Fuchs Clean Machine, I need loud, fat cleans with a very tight low-end... if you have any suggestions, let me know... how many jazzers out there?

Jim is doing a wrap-a-round burst that will resemble this burst of Saul's with his own twist:

This will be the first fully custom instrument I own and my only electric. If I can convince Jim to build me a fan-fret 8, I'll have one built, and if not, an archtop seven string (one day)... but I'll be more than happy with just this one!

Thanks Amon! I'm really stoked for this guitar... already dreaming of all the music I'm going to make with it.

What I really love about Jim's guitars is their versatility. They sound incredible clean and dirty, have a fast enough neck for shred but still enough girth to wrench on the neck when you want, the 16" radius on the board is perfect for two-handed tapping, ridiculous sustain and the ability to use multiple tunings because of the extended scale length (27").

Another thing I've noticed, and probably owe big props to Pete Biltof at Vintage Vibe, is the clean tones sound great in all positions, bridge, middle and neck, which is something very rare for me... the bridge on it's own is almost always too harsh for me, but both sets of Pete's pickups sounded great on my LN6.

I wasn't thinking too much about the guitar and holding it all in until I got the binding pictures the other day and Jim locked me down for a finish on the body... I'm starting to get antsy!

Hmm, only 27"? I thought it would've been a bit nicer for 28", just a bit.

Why? 27" is a great scale length. More doesn't always equal better

The extended scale length was for added sustain and tension on the Low B/A and not for alternate/down tunings.

I think 27" is perfect for me, 1st position chording isn't too difficult and the extra room from the 10th fret on feels very natural.

I never go any lower than 1 full step down anyways though.

I'll be using 10s tuned to standard on this, with a wound Low B and Low E, and the rest flatwounds.

I'm surprised someone from good old Prince has heard of Soloway. I used to live in Quesnel and every time I'd mention an obscure brand like that I'd get sideways looks. Congrats on the build man, I know you'll love it.
