This guitar is less impressive seeing as he has no amp worthy enough for it

That thing is very nice! Score. So thats a p90 in the bridge right? Or is it a single coil in a humbucker housing?

From what I understand, it is a single coil, wound like a bigass P90... but with a blade instead of slugs/screws. I more or less said the tones I was looking for and the format I was interested in - blades, no bucker in bridge, bucker with clear/fat tone in neck - and let the pickup builder, Pete Biltof, sort of work his magic.

And I believe the neck bucker is two P90 wound blade singlecoils put side-by-side!

Congrats, dude. Swell guitar,
Thanks for looking and listening, I completely agree with you! I can't wait to lay eyes/hands/???? on this bad girl.

Still unsure of what amp I'm going to go with though, trying to find something with a gorgeous clean tone, that takes pedals like a champ, and can handle the low B (and low-end output of Jim's guitars, period) is proving to be pretty difficult.

Thanks man! I'm a big fan of the burst too; I gave Jim a picture and an idea to work with - something that wouldn't look out of place on an archtop - and he came up with this modified Honey Burst that took on its own sort of character due to the hues that the Black Limba (Korina) impart on the finish.

Jim does amazing work... they play/sound just as good as they look too, the neck profile is a killer modified Ibby.

Thanks Chris... I always thought Jim's work was stunning... I sold everything I've owned these last few years, tried a ton of gear, had a hoot and saved for this bad girl... now I just need to find my dream amp to go with my dream guitar.

Thanks for all the comments fellas... you've made me feel like family! If anyone has the money and is really taken by Jim's designs, you owe it to yourself to at least give him a call - he is great to work with, ridiculously supportive, a nice guy all around and open to trying just about anything.

Well I picked it up last weekend and haven't been on the forum since, haha!

It sounds absolutely amazing, dark, fat and incredibly clear... it has so much dimension/definition without being too bright.

The pickups sound great, especially the blade bucker in the neck, so good I'm considering getting one for the bridge position. The single coil/P-90 blade in the bridge is smokey and clear... sounds great clean and with gain but has a slight volume drop compared to the neck pickup... also, the middle position has a great tone but VERY low-output... I'm going to change this position to both pickups in series instead of parallel and if that works out, no pickup change needed... as I really do prefer single coils in the bridge position.

Most startling aspect of the guitar to me - an instrument built specifically for cleans sounds PHENOMINAL with gain. I really didn't care for my Soloway LN6 (six string) with gain but it sounded stunning clean... this guitar does both... with a more traditional jazz clean and absolutely ripping dirt tones.

The fit and finish is really where the guitar excells though, the neck and overall playability made it a very easy transition over to seven strings and it already feels natural to me. The burst is darker and more tobbaco-esque in person... exactly what I hoped for and all the little details tie in together perfectly.

All in all... couldn't be happier... now I just have to find an amp!
