Harray 18 is a jewel in the rough
Need tips on getting tighter

My band is recording at John Browne from Fell Silents studio in a few weeks and a few of our riffs I can play but in places they are a little bit sloppy, not that sloppy but a tad

just feel I need some tips to bring some more tightness and edge to my playing

cheerss

get yourself a recording system on your computer or something that you can double track. lay down one good track perfectly to a click and start doubling it, constantly. you'll be able to tell right away if you are out and having to redo it to the point of being perfect with itself will make you tighter.

^ splendid advice.

if its not possible to get such a system in time, a simplified version might be to tab the stuff out on a tab program, like gp5 or something, and then practice it for a while, and work yourself up to some 110% of the regular speed. then go back down and make sure its really tight and clean.

just working against a computer brings a sort of tightness, it is not always good, but usually it is.

Eat Shit. Billions of flies can't be wrong.

cut down on the poppers...

also you probably don't need any expensive recording system, just a cable/adapter that goes from a guitar jack to a headphone jack and audacity (which i beleive is free) will do the job.

If you don't use a metronome then you should play along with that regularly, also if there is another guitarist in the band then jam with him a few times and make sure you both know what notes you are playing. Other than that the advice about recording and playing with it is excellent.
I just recorded some stuff with my band and little mistakes for harder riffs are well worth nailing before you enter a studio. I ended up overdubbing a few riffs that were pretty sloppy when I listened back to them.

Harray 18 is a jewel in the rough
I already do my own recording
and I know that my stuff is tight but not brilliantly tight to my ears

check it out for yourself and tell me what i can do:
SoundClick artist: Harray - Heavy, epic, tight, atmospheric ambient etc

great advice so far, much appreciated

I have audacity, I try to double tracks and they get out of sync. I wish that crap didn['t have to be so complicated.

GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT? Fitzgibbons 5000 ultra synapse accellerator which allows me to think faster than the masses and phase in and out of the matrix at will.

Play to a computer, and stick to the beat as best as you can with your pick hand.
