maybe grab a copy of fruity loops or something, and program a rough drum beat with the basic groove, plus maybe a 16th note hihat or something and then play to that?

Just spend a LOT of time jamming on a very rigid metric source. Start slow if you have to and work upt o faster than you need to, if youve got the time.

But seriously man, sometimes lifting weights helps for some strange reason. Also practicing at a faster tempo and going back down helps. But mainly I think it is just repetition.
