Go flex at that clerk and cancel his dumb ass.

Put me the camp that finds the wider necks more comfortable. If I had a nickel for every bad piece of advice I've heard or gotten at a music store I'd have rooms full of custom guitars.

What a fool that clerk is! like most people have said its down to having a good technique and hand positioning.

I have been playing 7 string since i was 14 (now 16) and never had a problem back then or now.
My hands are pretty small and i still manage with a wide neck.
Even my friend who plays bass (his fingers are shorter and fatter than MJR's) still mananges to play a 6 string bass with ease.

It's just that the guy told me that I'd suffer from carpal tunnel and that it wouldn't be wise for me to play one.
You already know you can play it.

The store clerk is absolutely full of shit, and doesn't have a fucking clue what he is talking about. How DARE he tell you not to buy something?! Since when was he a GP?

Find a better guitar store.

Exactly. The dde has obviously heard the word Carpal tunnel syndrome and has a vague understanding of what it means, so he thiniks he'll compensate for his tiny penis and inability to play the guitar by talking big. Fuck him.

I have perhaps the shortest pinkies in existence relative to the rest of my (average sized) hands, and I have no problem playing most anything on a 7 that I can play on a 6 and then some. And, my 7 is notorious for having an enormous neck in all dimensions.

If you find a 7 that's comfortable and can afford, buy it.

Yes a comfortable guitar will leave you with stumps at the wrist

ask the clerk what height he plays at, no matter how high, say its a little too low and could give him carpal tunnel... hopefully he'll strangle himself

Did this guy come out with any other little pearls of wisdom? Spider III is the best gigging amp in the world? Floyd Rose trems can't hold tuning? EMGs work best with SS amps?

Bah, my main 7 string fretless bass is 2-3/4" wide at the nut, and 4-3/4" at the 24th, and I get around fine on it

I've never met nor heard of anyone getting carpal tunnel from playing a guitar or bass or any musical instrument for that matter. what a douche.

So much gear, so little cash ...

Just sit down on the shop and try all the 7s that are there.

Maybe you will like better Ibanez necks, that are slimmer than Schecter ones. You just have to try them to know if you can play them.
