Blackouts

More and more everyday Im getting tired of those "New 7's" in my 7621.
Im thinking of going with the blackouts however i have one question, can i coil tap them?? This way I can still use the ibanez split 5 pickup selector.

Splitting the pickup is a major thing for me and my sound and I need to maintain the ability to do so. The other thing that worries me about the blackouts is if they are way too "metal"

While I do play a lot of heavy music (and im sure I could greatly benefit from the tone these have to offer) I need something that wont sound anemic and weak if I play clean or with light amounts of distortion.
