carvin 7 strings

How are they? I really like carvin stuff in general, and for roughly 1050 they will be me a custom 7 string.

First off all, do I spend the extra few hundred dollars on a guitar that is built pretty much how I want it? I really like the idea of having a one of a kind guitar built to my specs, however I am a little concerned because I will not be able to play the guitar before I buy it.

Second, how do they play/sound in general? The neck would be tung oil finished, the frets would be medium jumbo (24 of them) on an ebony fretboard with a maple or mahagony neck (I forgot exactly what one) and a walnut body.

Any thoughts/comments/ideas?

Carvin is a damn fine guitar, and one of if not the best in it's price range. So it would be worth it to spend the extra cash.
As for the sound; i haven't played a 7, but I used to own a bolt, and it sounded better than most of the guitars I've own. I would still own if I didn't have to pay off my student loans.

My friend has two Carvins: a 10 year old DC127 and a brand new Carved top CT4. They are both phenomenal instruments. The 10 year old 127 needed a little work recently, but after few minutes with a qualified tech over here it played as good as new. The standard pickups are quite hot. I would buy a Carvin myself, but they no longer ship to APO addresses. "Support out troops" my A$$!!!!

Don't they have a 10 day trial period:

The only way to appreciate the performance of a Carvin product is to use it in your own environment, giving it the test of "real world" performance. Take 10 days to try out Carvin products.
Now you can't go wrong there!

They're a great deal for anyone in the US but for anyone else they're a bit pricey imo.

I used Carvins exclusively before I bought my EB/MM Petrucci 7. They are easily on par with the top makers in the US. The quality, playability, and especially price kick fucking ass.

In fact, if they ever made a seven string with piezo (or once the piezo for floyds are available) I've considered heading back. I love my Petrucci and it'll be mine 'til the day I day and the wife or kids sells off my crap but having all the wood options and the neck through is too cool to pass up.

If money weren't as much an object for me as it is, I'd use the Pet 7 live and own a couple Carvin 727's for recording.

I wish they'd offer the CT or Bolt in 7 string.

Carvin 7 with piezo? Hell, I'd have it shipped to my friend in Georgia and have him ship it to my APO address. I'd be all over it. Even better, baritone scale necks... One can always hope.

the only thing stopping me from a carvin is the 25.5" neck...
They're seriously killer instruments.
Carvin..Good Enough for Jason Becker, good enough for you ;p
