I really love my new RG1527, eventhough in general I prefer guitars that come with a pickguard.
It's not only for the looks, but I think having a pickguard changes the feel when picking, as the distance of the strings to the body is smaller. And I know this might sound ridiculous, but I didn't think that myself at first, but it really does make a difference. And I noticed that for me picking is easier when the distance of the strings to the body is as small as possible. So, my idea was to maybe mount a pickguard on my RG1527, but I'm a bit scared or ruining the guitar. Has anyboed ever done this successfully? Any tips? Another thought I had was lowering the action (which is still too high anyway), mabe that will already solve the problem of string to body distance.... |

theres a dude on here with a 1527 with a pg. look for pimped 7's or something like htat in the threads.
its doable, but youll need longer pots etc. keep in mind its not the same mounting a pg on a non pg guitar. the routes are in the back. on guitars that come with a pickguard stock, the routing is done in the front, and covered by the thing. Id try lowering the action first. thats gonna be more of a feel thing id imagine

I put a pick guard on my former RG7621 in the summer. It was custom made by someone on jemsite for an rg7620 and for a brief while it was on my RG7620 but then it found its way onto this black RG7621. Here are few pics.

This is OT, but I never understood why manufacturers still more or less follow the old Fender construction - and don't recess the neck/bridge/PU's and make the fretboard flush with the body. DIdn't Ibanez make an S like this, with back-loaded PU's?

it's harder to play like that, there's less room in-between the strings and the body

I've been thinking of modding my 1527 with a pickguard. I've thought about the problem with the pot shafts - if they're long enough, it won't matter, if they aren't, well... improvisation time. One idea (not really much thought though) is to use a grinder or something alike to take some wood beneath so the pot sinks "more" in to the body...
But keep us posted with the possible mounting. I at least am interested. |

Sorry for my late reply...
Thanks guys for all your posts and input ! I'm not sure yet whether to mount a pickguard or not. Still thinking maybe I will get used to it .... Quote:
