Another 7 RG/UV Question

It's down to the wire, which is a bad pun for hwat I am going to ask about, and its going to help make my descision.

How do the frets compare from a 7620 and a UV. i read the UV's are short, but is it extreme short? I have jumbo's on my RG550xx and I love how my fingers never fully touch the fretboard. Are the UV's frets too low for the sort of faux Scalloped feel?

Thanks.

UV frets are medium Jumbo and trust me you will never notice it. I too had this "issue" in my head when I was shopping for a UV and now that I have one it doesnt affect my playability at all. In fact my action is so much lower due to the smaller frets.

I've heard people say this before, and I just don't get it.

How does fret size possibly affect your action? Action is measured as the distance from the top of the fret to the string. The fret's could be 5 feet high, and it would still have nothing to do with the measurement of action.

As to your question, when I first bought my UV I thought the frets were pretty big, because they're bigger than what the Jem's have. However, after playing on the Jumbo's I ordered on my Carvin, the UV frets are quite a bit smaller, and I prefer the Jumbo's on the Carvin. But it's all about what you're used to, what you're comparing it with, and what you like the most. So go play one and you can answer for yourself better than anyone here can for you.

I always thought action was from the string to the fretboard and thus having smaller frets meant having lower action

Why would that affect anything? You press the string to the fret, not to the fingerboard - indeed, pushing all the way to the fretboard is a)more likely to be out of tune and b)a waste of effort.

Thats why scalloped boards are thought to make you play faster - you learn quickly that pushing all the way to the fretboard is a waste of time.

it takes less work to get lower action without buzzing on lower frets. its easier anyways. doesnt take as much perfection in the fretwork ive found. just like using thinner strings

But will it still feel like jumbo's?, I don't want a huge difference from the jumbo to the 6140. If it is I will just get a 7620 and 'pimp it out'

word.
