Ernie Ball Family Reserve John Petrucci 7

The local guitar shop here near my office carries 3 of these beauties. Unfortunately each of them runs at around USD 4000...

$4,000 for any guitar is pretty goddam ridiculous, regardless of how beautiful they may be. on that note, i'd love to have the opportunity to jack one from a music store...and not get caught, of course.

My friend has one... He says it plays like jebeesus, but tbh I didn't like the burst they did on it. Less black IMO. But it looked and smelt really nice.

I have not liked the look of a single EBMM BFR i've seen. I've now seen 5 or 6 of them in person, and every single one of them was too dark, and too opaque to really see the beautiful wood underneath the finish.

Whatever you do, don't go over to the Music Man forums and tell them that, or you'll get Sterling Ball's knickers in a not.

But apparently they sound godlike.

This space intentionally left blank.

I wonder why the flametops and quilts on every Carvin I've seen for $1300 or $1400 blows away the BFRs. Probably like you said Darren, they're ruining it with the finish.

I think it's their first attempt at doing a stain-black-and-sand-back finish, and it seems to me that they're just using too much dye.
