TemjinStrife is a jewel in the rough
The only basswood guitar I've ever played that I've liked the tone of was, oddly, my Squier '51. Utterly amazing guitar, in terms of sound and playability. x10 with a nut and bridge upgrade. Every other basswood guitar I've found to sound pretty bad. I also hate trems, which shuts off the majority of Ibanezes... and the necks cramp my hand like no other.

That said, I have an SLSMG Soloist which has an Ibanez-style neck that I enjoy for short periods of time, but I can't play it for more than a few songs before my tendonitis flares up and my hand cramps. Schecter necks are beefy enough to help with that, and even my Dean EVO 7 (which has an entire mahogany tree trunk with strings attached) is more comfortable.

I like those Schecters. The Loomis and the Blackjack.

+1. My Squier '51 is a blues beast!

I like both Schecter and Ibanez, but I prefer the feel on the Ibanezes (for 7-strings at least). I've played the Hellraiser and the Blackjack and I thought they both looked and sounded good. The actions were good, but not as good as in my Ibanezes. The neck was a little too thick for my liking (if it was the same thickness on a six, I would have no problem, but I like my sevens to be a little thinner).

I wouldn't mind owning a Hellraiser (or maybe a Loomis), but it definitely wouldn't be my main guitar and there are some songs my band plays that might be harder to play on a Schecter.

That perfectly fine.

The point of this thread was really to say that I've tried the Loomis (which was previously almost unobtainable in the UK) and I honestly wasn't very impressed.

The specs were great.

It sounds incredible.

But the overall 'feel' of the instrument was not inspiring to me. My S7 and RG7 have more 'life' to them when I pick them up. They feel more alive and like a carefully crafted instrument than the Loomis, which felt like a jumble of parts assembled together. It didn't feel like a creation, it felt like an assembly.

And to the asshole who negrepped me, grow the fuck up. I couldn't care less about a neg rep, but you need to learn to read a constructive argument, you inbred fuckwit.

Ease up, killer.

My experience with Shecters has been the polar opposite of yours, FWIW - they've all felt very solid. I'm wondering if you just got a bad one or something.

My advice, Stitch: Wait till yours comes, set it up and string it up the way you usually do, and give it a fair spin.

Then, if you still don't like it, sell it. But, with all the love for Loomises (I can't find one around here, so I can't contribute my own opinion) I'd be surprised if you found it utterly untenable.

You're missing my point. I got to set one up. :p

I probably should give it a fair spin, but the 30 or 40 minutes I spent playing it did nothing for me.

And in my defense, a lot of people on the forum shit all over Ibanez build quality when all they've played are RG7321's and UV777PBK's - possibly the two worst sevens they make. Indeed, that any manufacturer makes.
