Question S7420 String Beef - HELP!

The 3rd string on my new (to me) S7420 is being most uncooperative. It's refusing to stay in the bridge. Imagine the deflated ego, after being all ready to pat myself on the back for having successfully changed the strings for the first time. What's particularly frustrating is that the one I replaced was probably in place for months, if not years, suggesting the locking mechanism is in order.

So, what's the deal?

Here's a picture of the bridge in question:

SHOCKING reason why Last Rites was called "scariest band ever" by the San Francisco MusiCalendar. . .

pop a new string in and see what happens

Origanally posted by Variant - Pulled from the river Styx, the mighty black oar of doom in hand! I certainly would not call this particular guitar an "axe" more like a club. Noodles' KxK would run through an emo, spilling his insides for a quick death, this blunt mace would bludgeon the unfortunate effeminate soul, breaking bones, and causing internal bleeding to lead only to a slow, painful death

yep. thats pretty much all you can do mang. if you have a TON of excess around the tuning peg you can take it down and clip the edge off of the bridge side, and try a fresh bit of string in there. really though unless something is wrong with the bridge which i highly doubt, its just shitty string in there

Fortunately, I still have some excess around the tuner, so I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Well, now all but 2 strings popped out, so I'm not even at square one at this point. I already ordered 3 replacement blocks, but I'm probably going to have to order a whole set in case the others are worn out. On the other hand, I happen to have a Washburn Wonderbar bridge sitting around. Maybe I should sell it and buy something newer for the Ibanez. Do any of the new ZR bridges fit an S7420?

not be default, and you cant buy them aftermarket. you can buy sixer bridges, but not 7 string ones (the zr i mean). they have a baseplate now for the cavity so they install fairly easily, but it would be a lot of hassle to get one
id try and find an ofr for it

Are there other bridges that are improvements over the original that are worth looking into?

umm, i like the schaller but im not sure if that actually comes as a 7. I like the lo pro a bit more, but those are hard to find outside of ibanez rules, and he charges list price.
also, theyre not a big enough imporvement to warrant the routing (even though its only a little bit, still).
Really, id just get an OFR and get a tremelno for it. if you can find a ZR7 id get that, thats worth a little bit of work, but i wouldnt buy an S7320 just to loot that.

if its REALLY that big of an issue, you could try (until your replacements get there), pulling out the block, putting a bit of string under it, put the block back in and push it down and then tighten it.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.
