Now, onto my favorite eastern European guitar slinger...

I think the JB will work a lot better in your RG than in my V, since the body has a lot less mass. It is thinner, has deep cutaways, and loses a lot of wood to the trem route. Still, the low end just doesn't sit will with mahogany. It is far too flubby, so it works better with a punchy wood, like alder or poplar. The ceramic magnet is something I would want to stay away from, though, since it is going to be much too bright in that RG. I think a Custom 5 would actually work a lot better fr you than me, since I'm guessing your guitar is nowhere near as dark as mine. Especially with a trem, since trems add a lot of top end.

I was try Custom in RG few days ago.......Rg was mahagony w/trem but 6 string.......and I found that custom is more mudy that JB when I use it with same distortion. Costom is good too........but I prefer JB. Thank you very much Dave

BTW what's mean slinger?

You found the Custom to be muddier than the JB? I'm assuming you adjusted your amp settings, right? I'd like to know the model number from the back of the pickup, since that sounds like you may have been playing the Custom Custom (SH-11). They're muddy as hell. The Custom (SH-5) is one of the tightest pickups Duncan makes.

Guitar slinger, as in slinging the guitar around when you're playing it.

That might the thing, imo. Yev doesn't have much of an "amp".

Ah, that solves it. First, if it was a Mesa cab, it probably had V30s. Those speakers have notoriously flubby bass response. Plus, you probably weren't running a tube screamer as a clean boost. Finally, you really don't want to run the bass knob on a Triple up to noon, as they make an obscene amount of bass. Mike runs his around nine or ten o'clock.

Keep in mind that a Custom has a strong bass response, so you have to turn the bass knob down on the amp.

Nice.

By the way, that trem could use some polishing.

Don't be scared, ask Kevan. He really knows his trems and owns a CST so I'm sure he can help you out a lot.
