Is the nut filed right? Strings binding in the nut could easily cause tuning problems.

Mah musics.

Sorry guys I don't mean to be an ass. Im just pissed. I dig the way this guitar plays and sounds. I changed out the pickups to blackouts which I think sound real good. So everything is right there except for this tunning problem that is driving me nuts. I know you guys are tryin to help. Thanx for that.

My guitar tech also mentioned just like you guys are telling me about shaving down the nut alittle. Is this safe and effective?
I am also really confused now about what size strings to use. I am tunning in standard and than droping the low B to A. All my other 7 string guitars I normally use 10,13,17,30,42,52,66 . If I can get away with light strings on this guitar that would be nice but I still want the low A to be tight.

I used to have the same exact guitar, and just like yours it didnt have locking tuners. I did have problems with the low b and the high b staying in tune. Unfortunatly I never fixed it, ended up selling back to the old owner. I would recomend putting in a set of locking tuners.

This is your set of strings and their tensions on your other 7s.
10-13-17-30-42-52-66 in Drop A.
Quote:
E .010" PL == 16.21#
B, .013" PL == 15.38#
G, .017" PL == 16.57#
D, .030" NW == 25.04#
A,, .042" NW == 26.31#
E,, .052" NW == 22.01#
A,,, .066" NW == 16.28#
total == 137.81#
You see the low A is very loose in tension compared to your E. And that is in 25.5" (assuming). If you find it tight then so be it. For 27" a .062 for your 7th will give you the same string tension as the .066 in 25.5".

Its cool man, we all know that shit can be frustrating. id try rubbing a pencil tip over the strings where they go through the nut to lubricate it a bit, and see if that helps

Well I had my tech file the nut a bit. Worked like a charm!

Yeah I stretched the strings.

This guitar has a graphite nut, it should be staying in tune. I have had the strings on there for 2 weeks and have been playing every day.
I have the same guitar (the one that 69dodgecharger had) no problem with tunning after setup. My is 2006 model and it's got carbon fiber nut and gotohs. I Think that in 2007 ESP changed spec to graphite nut, and in this year also put Sperzels

Stringing it up right? Uh yeah this isnt my first rodeo. I have been playing and setting up my guitars for a long time. I lock the string winding with a wrap around top and bottom like a pro would do when giving you a setup.

I duno maybe I just need to throw on another set of strings and hope for the best.

You can use light gauges man. I've used 10-56 in A and it stayed in tune perfectly. It really should not be going out of tune regardless of gauges. It is definitely safe to have your tech file the nut a bit.
