Couple of floyd questions...

When I dive the trem, the pitch returns flat, and when i pull up the pitch returns sharp. Also, when I raise it sharp the strings make some sort of clicking or slippin sound at the nut. Do I need a new nut? Or is there something else causing this? Strings have been streched in, posts lubed, trem angle correct, etc.

Also, where other than carvin can I get a replace 7-string nut?

Fuck it, you only live once!

sounds like a problem with the knife edge. there are plenty of forums that cover this, not sure which ones without a google search though.
as for the nut, you can get a real floyd nut. go to the floyd rose website to see where you can buy it. they also make a 7 string real floyd. not sure what the stud spacing is though.

I plan on upgrading to the real OFR. Probably need a new nut (i think i stripped the lockdown pegs lol). I lubed the knife edges and the posts so I dunno why it's doing that, although that's what sounds like the problem to me is the knife edges (if it was the nut slipping or strings slipping the strings would return sharp after diving and flat after rising).

Make sure you set the knife edges when you tune it. This means you tune the guitar up, then you lock the nut, then you give the trem a workout and end on a dive bomb, then unlock the nut and tune, then lock the nut and fine tune. that might work.

Ahhh...the nice, dry Colorado winters. Oh, how I miss the snow in Steamboat. NOT.

Depending on where you live in the world, you guitar(s) will need maintenance several times a year. Those of us with 4 seasons, and WOOD guitars, will have to work a little harder to maintain our gear in perfect working order.

Even here where it's like the inside of a Dryel bag, I get creaking and "odd" noises from my guitars during the winter months. Lack of moisture in the air causes it. Try a humidifier near the guitar(s). Don't put it on "Rainforest", but try to get it somewhere around 30-40% humidity. Most of the new humidifiers have gauges built into them. Try Target, Sears, etc.

Since I got tired of feeling like a fuckin' potato chip during the winter months, we invested in a whole-house humidifier. It attaches to the top of the furnace and is activated when the furnace kicks on. Seemed like a great way to help- "...will humidify up to 7000 sq. ft!"- but in actuality I don't think it could humidify 7 sq. ft. You might have better success.

Another suggestion: Try switching the posts. Low B side goes to High E side and vice versa. It's worth a try and might save you a few bucks and many a headache.

this is why i think i need parker to make a friggin' seven string.

my six string parkers never need adjustment, are made of wood (yet have an exoskeleton to protect them from the weather), and weren't really that much when you consider how much time i save on bianual set-ups.

not to become a corporate whore or anything.

I already have set the knife edges, as per Rich's setup on ibanezrules.com

Yeah, I'll try switching the posts and keeping the guitar in a more humid room. Thanks!

When you guys say "set the knife edges", you're not talking about filing them, are you?
*prays*

BTW- UniversalJems.com = good source for parts. Plus, the owner is friendly and knowledgeable on the 7's.

no no no, I listen to your advice about filing. Setting the knife edges just refers to getting them comfortable and snug with the posts.

I just ordered a nut from guitarpartsdepot.com
