Next on my Hit List

Well, I guess I've decided that now I am a collector of 7 string guitars. Last week I was in Guitar Center talking to a friend of mine that works there and he was telling me that they are trying to get rid of all their 7 string guitars and no longer carry them AT ALL. He said they are too hard to sell once he gets them in. They were hot for a while when Korn was big and all the kids that really didn't even know how to play a 6 string guitars bought 7 strings, but now everyone is just tuning their 6 strings down. Oh well..... I have been playing 7 string guitars since long before Korn and don't plan on stopping. When I pick up a 6 string now, It feels like I have a broken string. Anyway, that being said, I wonder if this is the beginning of the end or at least a major decline in the production and design of new 7 String guitars. I HOPE NOT!!! But just in case, I want to grab as many cool 7 string guitars now as I possibly can. Who knows what it will be like trying to find an IBZ S series 7 in 25 years from now? I may be over reacting or just plain retarded, but it is a good excuse to go get a bunch of cool new toys.

I have:
IBZ S serries 7 Transparent Blue flame top
IBZ Universe 7 black with green PUs - I suck with model numbers
IBZ Universe 7 Black with Mirror Pick guard
Gibson Epiphone Les Paul 7 Transparent Black with flame top

It's cyclical. If that were REALLY true, used prices would completely bottom out on the non-collectable ones. 7620's are the perfect benchmark for this- They dropped WAY down after the end of the seven string boom, with Musicians Friend clearing them out at $449, and typical used pricing falling as low as $300 to $400 with premium pickups, usualy with a case. They began to rise back up, peaking out on an average $4-500 about a year ago. Now that 1527's are beginning to show on the used market, and coupled with waning interest, they're droping back down towards $350-450, making the still one of the best deals out there for a high-quality axe. Depending on finances after the holiday season, I'm really tempted to grab a second for a backup/custom project.

Last time I checked, Vwall at Jemsite still had his doubleneck Sabre 6/7 up for grabs.

To answer your question though...
7-strings have a strange history. One minute they are popular, the next, they're not. I look at it this way...When they're popular, we have all kinds of cool new models to check out. When they're not popular, we get to buy high-end 7s off Ebay for much cheaper than their original price.
