Question HellRaiser Gauges? Tension? Help

Ok, sorry for the ignorant questions but I am a bit confused. I just got a C-7 Hellraiser and its a 26.5 scale. I have D'Addario 10-59 on them in standard tuning. The low B seems a bit muddy to me. What I dont understand is the string tensions for this guitar. I have read quite a few posts about this and maybe I should give up but I am trying to get my head around this. Do I want all the strings to be about the same tension? I still cant get how to figure this out. I go to the D'Addario site and they dont have a guide for my scale length.

Here is my setup and what I would like to try and accomplish. C-7>TS9 Tube Screamer>Fast Track Pro interface>PC>Reaper>GearBox or Revalver or Wagener... then EQ or what not after. cant or wont get an Amp because of wife

I play mostly metal with the 7 string... Devin Townsend, Lamb of God, Soilwork ect ect <<< that type. Like I stated earlier the low B seems a bit woofy or muddy. I have tried to get the Tube Scream to clear that up and it helps but do I need to go up to a 64 66 for the B? Do I need to get a whole individual set that is matched tension wise(if I could ever figure that out)?? For the 7 string I am mostly concerned about riffing and rhythm playing. I need to be careful as I have a tricky pinky finger and I cant go too high in gauge as I am trying to get the strength back to it from and injury. I play on my 6 string Ernie Ball 10-52.

So do I order some 64 66 or a 70 for the low b? can some one help me figure out on this Hellraiser what a matched set would be? I just want a bit tighter sound.....

Thanks!!!!

Hmm. i believe my C7 has a .059 on it. I was planning on going up to a 62. Mine doesnt have any of the issues you were describing. my amp setup is different though.
Anyway, the way the tension thing you've seen on here works, is that you want each string to have roughly a pound more tension then the previous. Due to some string guages and availability, its not EXACT, but it does feel alot better than a regular set of strings.

If i were to order a set of 9's for the HR, i'd get something along these lines:
E .009" PL = 14.18Lbs
B .012" PL = 14.15Lbs
G .017" NW = 15.44Lbs
D .024" NW = 17.03Lbs
A .032" NW = 17.03Lbs
E .046" NW = 18.88Lbs
B .062" NW = 19.61Lbs

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

For the sake of ease, I order a three pack of 10-52s with a 66 for my schecter (same scale length) for A#. I would say if you are using 10-52s on your 6 (25.5) for E, then a set of 9-46+60 would be good for standard+B. I personally order as few single strings as possible since GC always has "unusable" stock on them (which one rep told me means they lost what they had or they weren't able to get to it in the warehouse *anger*), and I owe too much money on the preferred players card to cancel it and get another one with a better company.

And as mentioned your woofy tone might be coming from your amp settings. If you are clipping your input then you will get ugliness (since its pretty much a digital signal path to what you are hearing). Try going straight in to see if that helps (you can use a tubescreamer patch in gearbox to get the desired effect). Also make sure the battery isn't close to dead.

Bekanor is a jewel in the rough
Swap the 707 in the bridge for an 81-7. Goodbye muddiness.

Well in my opinion, within exceptions, the looser the string the better the metal tone (and I am referring to 54s on up for a B string, not the nile type sound). Since the looser string has alot of movement it excites the amp a little bit. BUT I hate the feel of light tension strings (it makes it feel like I am playing with a greased football). I loved the way a 56 sounded on my 26.5 but preferred the 60 for feeling.

Have you tweaked the eq and gain levels on your presets yet? Also playing with the pickup height might help as well.

Thanks for the tips guys.... Its funny when I was young and dumb and would crank the gain on my little crate amp to 10 and think I was cool

Now I fret over tone sometimes so much instead of just making music.

So pickup height..... for tighter and brighter I assume closer to the strings heh?

THanks
