Is the RG1527 comparable to the RGA121/RG2550E?

Clearly the 1527 is a 7 string and the other two are 6ers, but the specs of all 3 seem very close. In terms of quality, does any one of them have an edge? I think they all have the V7/V8 or DiMarzio/IBZ?

Also, is the neck on the RG1527 comparable to the one on the RG7321? What are the differences? Are the 1527's pickups an improvement?

(Ironically, I just went to Guitar Center and came out with many more questions than I came in with )

The 1527 neck is sex compared to the 7321. The stock PUs obviously need changing. The DiMarzio/Ibz PUs are better than the V7/V8 imo.

Is the neck thicker/thinner, or a different shape? And of all three guitars I played today (2550, 121, 7321), all pickups were at least bearable. I could see keeping them for a while. Pickups become less and less relevant in high gain situations IMO.

different shoulder on the neck.
umm, one big difference, the rga121 is an artchtop, and is much thinner.
pickups become less relevant in SOLID STATE high gain situations. a good tube amp will have the differences shine through.
Really, the 1527 is most comparable to the 1570

Well, if the 1527 is anywhere near as playable as the RGA121, they probably have themselves a customer

Of course, let's be honest... this is ME we're talking about

Out of curiosity, how soft is the basswood they use? Is it softer than mahogany? Does the finish have much to do with it? I guess I'm just paranoid because I've seen more dents in used basswood Ibanez guitars more than any others. I know blah blah blah it's meant to be played, but I REALLY don't like paint chips

Hard ass basswood, is softer than soft chewy mahogany.
thats a thing with basswood. I love the sound of basswood (im just tired of that being my one option with ibby minus imports) but thats one flaw it has. you can press a fingernail into some raw basswood.
The 1527 should play just as nicely as an rga121 though

Pickups--with the exception of EMG--should never influence your buying decision IMHO. It is a very simple matter to replace them with something better suited to your tastes. Hell, I replaced the bridge pickup on my KxK, and I ordered the damn thing to my exact specifications.

Being the owner of both of the aforementioned guitars, I can say that they're both very playable. There is a significant difference in sound, though, due to the different wood types used.

Don't tell me what I can't do.

Err, that's a problem, lol. Plus that can't exactly be good for the trem posts/studs, they must eventually rip an oval shaped hole into the wood, maybe?

I've just realized, an RGA127 or whatever its model name would be, would kick all kinds of ass.

after about 15 years, yeah, in a softer piece of basswood. Its already a little that way in almost any wooded ibby though, just by a slight overdrill
