7 String Woes...Advice needed.

I got a Schecter Loomis a few months back...It seemed like the obvious choice..Ash body, set neck, OFR 7, 707's...Component wise, this is the best 7 for the the money.

I will say that the guitar is phenomenal....The fret dressing is immaculate, and the over all appointments are quite stellar. But the chunky neck profile combined with the extended scale is really killing it for me. I have to shake my hands out constantly...Not only that...The overall string tension, and tension on the trem are WWAAAYYY too tight for me, I like a relatively "tight" or "snappy" feel...But this one takes the cake...Im having to stretch throughout rehearsal just to get rid of the hand cramps.

I need something to play for the next 4-5 months until my Rico Jr is done. I've been looking at the Ibanez S series, RG's and UV's...I like the neck profiles on them as well as the 25.5 scale...I've looked at Jackson, ESP, Agile, Framus, etc. I cant find anyone is the greater San Diego area who carries any of this shit...Guitar Center carries that hard tailed RG 7, thats about it.

What should I do? Where should I go? Who should I call to get good 7 string in 25.5 that has good hardware and pickups?

Thanks.

Yeah, but it could take less than 4 months to develop a serious hand injury. If the 7321's your only option, then I'd go with it and replace the pickups, nut and perhaps tuners. Unless you feel confident ordering online, which would give you quite a few options.

I'd say save your money and get a good setup for the Loomis.

I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ

While I'd agree that different neck profiles fit different people better than others, I'd go out on a limb and say that anything resulting in "serious hand injury" is more down to what you're going with your hands rather than the neck you're doing it with. But that's just my opinion.

If you're really worried about it, adjust a little. Practice sitting down for starters, that will alleviate a lot of wrist tension.

But in the end, it's your money, so if you want to buy something else in the interim, knock yourself out.

Eh, reposition a little. I mean, it's 1" longer and the neck is by no means as chunky as a vintage Strat. Plus, it's only four months.

Agreed, it's probably not your fault, it's just that you may have to readjust your technique to fit the scale length and neck. You never know, you may have to same problem with your new guitar. See what hurts when you play, and try to work around it and see why.
