How do I get a gloss finish neck to be a satin finish neck?

It's just a really smooth oil you put on wood.

my back of the neck was satin but now is all shiny and glossy from playing.... should I sand it to get the satin back?

like i said before, you wont go wrong with steel wool. It wont take enough of the finish off to worry about anything, all it will affect is the clear coat.
