Pickups for my first 7 string!

I'm getting a custom 7-string built by Jim at Soloway Guitars and wanted some advice on what I should grab for pickups.

Jim is afraid that something too high-output will mush the guitar out because I'm tuning a full step down (Low A - D - C - G - F - A - High D) but with his extended scale (27") my VHT Ultra Lead and clear pickups, I can't imagine having an issue with "mud".

I was thinking Bareknuckle Warpig in the bridge, yet to be determined single coil in the middle and a Nailbomb in the neck.

The guitar has a maple neck, cocobolo fingerboard, alder body and a korina/black limba top, so it should be tight and midrange focused... at least that is what I'm hoping...

Opinions!? Thanks ahead fellas!

Congrats on the Soloway!

If you're going with BKP I'd write Tim and Bare Knuckle and ask him. That said, Nailbombs should work very well in that guitar.

Thanks Eric!

I dropped Tim a line and am just waiting to hear back.

This'll be my second Swan, my other one is a Sapelle six string (down tuned a full step) with humbucker-sized P90s that I use for jazz gigs, I play through a Juke 1210 and absolutely love it, but it isn't the most versatile rig.

I'm a one guitar, one amp type guy, but I really miss playing metal in a band, and I think part of the reason I never stuck with it was cause I never had a decent rig for it, so now I'll be a two amp, two guitar guy

P/S I'll be sure to post pics when all is said and done, it's going to be a beauty, with a full body two tone burst!

Does Soloway do anything but cocobolo fingerboards anymore?

An alder body with a maple neck and board would sound pretty damn good.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

Haha, yeah, Jim does, he just perfers Cocobolo tonally and stability wise, especially for 7 strings.

My six string has a stripped Macassar Ebony fretboard, and I absolutely love the feel of it, but because of the weather up here in the great white north, I have to tune it more often than other neck wood combinations. Jim said most ebony available these days is quite reactive to climate and Macassar is the least reactive he has found. So I'm trusting him and going with the Cocobolo, he assures me he has an amazing board just waiting to be used

I love the feel and tone of maple boards, a lot, especially with clean and crunch tones, but for high gain, I don't like the character that it imparts and how much it accentuates pick attack.

I figure the Korina/Limba top will impart some sparkle and bark to the tone and help balance everything out.

Here is a pic of my Sapelle Sweethart:
