![]() | NGD and first 7! Advice needed... Hello! I have been very impatiently awaiting the arrival of my Schecter, and here it is! Don't mind the sucky pictures that I took. By the way, I have a white guitar, I swear! Not shown. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Been playing it for about an hour so far, and it feels good. The pickups are nothing special but they do the job, and I REALLY like the neck. I heard Schecters were beefier and I'm actually a little tired of thin necks. I don't see what's "faster" about them, they just get uncomfortable. I can play just as fast on this but it feels much better. I do have a problem with fret buzz though, especially the lower strings. I'm not really sure what to do about that since the action doesn't seem abnormally low and I really don't want to have to raise it... This was my first purchase from Musician's Friend, so I meticulously inspected the guitar since I have heard a bunch of weird stories. And the problem resides with the frets. There are rust spots on them or something, and I've never had this on a guitar. Is this something I should be getting fixed or should I be trying to return the guitar or something? Following this paragraph is an image of the 17th fret, but there are a couple other spots as well that I didn't take pics of. This one is the most obvious. ![]() |

![]() ![]() | Those frets look very square to me. I'd probably take it back because it probably needs a fret level + crown to get them looking nice. It could be one of the reasons for the fret buzz. If you don't mind it, you could just get some steel wool to polish them up and make them look new (it will get rid of the rust). Also, maybe the neck doesn't have enough relief so that could be the problem with regards to the fretbuzz. The neck shouldn't be straight, it should be a little bit concave (bend forwards in the direction of the strings) and should not backbow towards the back of the guitar. |

![]() | Is it new? Because that fretboard/frets look used to me. If it were me personally I'd send it back, but if you can deal with it just oil and polish it. |

![]() | Cool, thanks guys! I also noticed the frets were pretty square, but they're not really much more so than the frets on my American Strat. I honestly don't know what the perfect fret is supposed to look like... The neck tension is decent, in fact if anything I think it may need a little less bow then it has and it is bending the correct way. Some of the strings sound a little "wobbly" as if they're not the solid proper note even when Im just playing an open string, so it may just need a good setup. I definately don't want to keep it if it's going to be a troublesome guitar, but I'd have to ship it back to the US and I don't know what would happen with my shipping charges and customs charges, if I would get reimbursed for all that or not. btw, I know it looks used in the pics, it's just that the fretboard had a layer of dust on it, but it's not grimey or anything and I checked for overall signs of use and it seems new. And yeah, I love the finish as well ![]() |

by the way-- I disagree with what you said. With a shim under the nut, the neck can be dead straight with no dead notes (and fret-out if bending more than a whole step around 15 on the high E) I prefer this set-up... yeah the bends sometimes fret out, but the action is godlike (also if you have a zero-radiused fb like I will get on my custom 8, this isnt an issue) for some reason, there is always rust on every schecter I see outside of a store... their parts corrode like crazy for some reason... inlays are cool though | |
