To answer the specifics on cost...
list price was Y210,000 on Ikebe.
Add to that various shipping fees, bank charges, etc., it came to just under $2300 Australian - which is not cheap, but when you consider what they try to charge for a Universe here it makes sense to import something a bit more unique ...

When it hits customs, you get landed with:

5% import fee
customs processing fee ~$50
10% GST on sum of everything above (including purchase price and shipping)

So, the total was
$2300 + $380
= $2680 (roughly)
that's Australian dollars.

The thing about this process is that you really need to be patient. Customs were friendly when I spoke to them (three times) but they still took two weeks to clear the guitar. That was frustrating, knowing that it could get from Japan to here in 18 hours, but then took two weeks to reach me.

i always had a soft spot for any sunburst-ish finish, and that fire agate is sex to my eyes!
