Some of you might remember a thread where I planned string gauges. Originally, I wanted to go with 080s for the Low A on my baritone, and you guys convinced me to get 068 Elixirs instead.

Well, the Elixirs rule D'Addarios, no question about it, but two days ago I decided since I now have a baritone, it's time to go crazy, tune down to F and learn to play some songs off Nothing and Catch 33. Now, with the 068 Elixir it sure *sounded* good, but 4-5 kgs of tension don't make for good playability.

So yesterday I went with it and put on an 080 for the F.

This is just to tell you guys that note definition and articulation is not a problem when you're using an 080. It doesn't sound dull or mushy or muddy or anything. Granted, the 068 was a *little* brighter, had a little more texture, but the increased playability outweighs the minimal decrease in sound by far. I like it better, even when I tune to Drop-A.
