photoshop or alike will do just fine for the general idea, sketch though if you want to get exact proportions and lines you need to do it vector way inorder to use it in cad programs later on.
you can make fast drawings in illustrator, coreldraw, paintshop pro.
some cad programs like Autocad, Rhinoceros, Maya, google sketchup
