Danelectro MOD7 - anyone actually played one?

I figure this is the next-best thing to a sevenstring Jazzmaster so I'm thnking I might track one down. Opinions?

I'm not quite sure how it compares to a Jazzmaster, but it definitely has its own unique voice. It's not a guitar for everyone, but if you like unique tones that have their own special place, it's a really cool guitar.

Well that's something, I guess. Looking up the specs though, the "hardboard" body has me kinda worried...

Nothing to be worried about. Its a bonafide laminate body, amde of composites and glues. It isn't a lump of mahogany or alder or basswood, which is fine because this isn't a traditional guitar.

Say what you want, be a snob, but have you ever tried a proper Danelectro? Almost all of them are made with ply/laminate or hardwood bodies, and most of them arent that bad.
It definitely adds to the character and kookiness of the guitars sound.

I didn't mean to come across as snobbish. I had assumed it had an alder body and when I saw the body was "hardboard" I thought it was a euphemism for "balsa wood we salvaged from some kid's failed woodwork project"; I mean, it IS a pretty cheap guitar, so I feared the worst.

The only Danelectro I've ever seen in the flesh, let alone played, was one of those electric sitar dealios, which I had absolutely no clue about and thought it was horrendously set up, haha.

Dude, I'm sorry - I shouldn't have worded that as aggressively as I did.

I wasn't trying to suggest you were being snobbish.

I'm gonna take a break just now....need sleep. Sorry bro.

If you slapped a set of 13s on it, I'll bet it would be an awesome tool for slide playing.

elrrek will become famous soon enough
I tried to grab one of these in two auctions on the US ebay recently.

The first guy was asking way too much for it (imho) and the second guy - who had a much more reasonable price - wasn't into shipping to me in the UK

Guess I'll just have to wait for the Loomis hardtail in 2008 (fingers crossed) or grab an Agile if I want a 2nd and "different" 7.
