Danelectros have traditionally been a frame of plywood or poplar with a top and back of masonite or other hardboard. The originals even used vinyl wallpaper tape around the edges to conceal the laminate body core.

It's definitely a part of the sound, as are the lipstick-tube pickups. Nothing has the same attack or unusual upper-midrange snarl and quick decay. They're totally unique sounding. I love playing mine... kooky sounds inspire kooky riffs sometimes. And it's a great tool for layering when you want to get a cool "twang" on a low riff.

1 word. Kashmir.

Nice info, Darren. I was never aware of all those details. They definitely have their place in guitar history.

Moto is on a distinguished road
Yup. I love these guitars too. Does anybody know why Danelectro decided to put this one on the market? It is an unusual blend of styles for a guitar. I originally bought two and have one on ebay to sell. It is off-white with violet glow.
