THE new AX-7
I got this one yesterday on trade on a strat. I put it up for sale on here but I'm really considering keeping it. It's an AX7221 and it says made in Korea. When I look it up on jemsite it says it should have been made in china. Any ideas, or does someone remember anything about these. Any bad things about them. I gave the guy $300 off the strat for it just so I could try one... This one plays well. I'd like to keep it but I'm out of room and guitars are starting to ooze out into the living room....Links to da pics

I've played 2 of them I think and same thing. I think it's one of the worst guitars I've ever played.

Can you tell me more... This one has good action and plays pretty well. Were they just poorly made or poorly setup or both...

Well setup can be fixed. It just felt like a cheap toy in my hands. I just really couldn't get into playing it
Maybe it's just a mental thing though seeing as how I really dislike the body shape

I can understand that. It's got the bastard son of an SG/les paul thing going. Also on jemsite it said they were made in china.
Mine says Made in Korea on the back and the serial is C00xxxxx or something like that which should mean it was made by Cort. Above that it says AX 7221. Any idea why.. Jemsite is just probably wrong or they made them in korea to start for a short time and then moved them to china is my guess |

thinking your right on the korea then china deal.
as far as quality, ever played a $1000+ guitar? it just feels different. I dont think anybody knows how to explain it, i think the "feels like a toy" is the best way to describe how a cheap guitar feels. It may be set up well, and if you like playing it, then by all means keep it. who cares what everyone here says about it sucking, if you like it? keep that in mind. Generally, you should ask about the guitar BEFORE you buy it but whatev, if your happy with it, for gods sake keep it and be happy with it. Just, try out a nicer 7 sometime. go pickup a 1527 or a UV or an S7320. It might change things for you Reverse Headstocks or Bust :chris: ALL HEIL THE ADMINISHREDDER! |

Some day I want to do a test to try out this theory. I want to be blindfolded, and have someone hand me random guitars to play that range in absolute dog shit in quality and nice high end instruments. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the hate for guitars comes from the price tag, or brand name. Would be interesting to see the results.

lol you might not be too far off, but then again, my brother and i have 6 stringers with the same bridge, bodywood, and necks off the same model, same setup. We can both tell whos is whos without looking.
So i dunno. If you find out, let us all know ;-) Reverse Headstocks or Bust :chris: ALL HEIL THE ADMINISHREDDER! |

The 7521 I used to have was an awesome guitar. I'd still have it if I didn't need the money at the time. I can't speak for the 7221s, but I liked the neck on the 7521, the neck pickup was pretty sweet too.

Guitars I've owned. Gibson Les Paul's Custom Lite, Classic, Deluxe with mini hums and one with P90. PRS Standard 24 with 10t and Birds, Ernie Ball EVH, USA Strat Ultra along with standards, plus and deluxe models Jackson soloist, UV777BK etc.. Currently own, Jems DBK, 77fp, Vwh. Les Paul studio Lite and XR1, K7, RG7620, RG1527, S7420 x2, S7320, Carvin Cal Carve top, RGT3120TV, JS1000, Warmoth Strat, Fender 93 USA Deluxe plus, RG520.. etc... The one thing I am sure of is that price has almost nothing to do with how a guitar sounds, plays, and feels. I like to play my RG520 more than any other 6 string I own other than my DBK and my S7420 that had a lopro edge7 installed more than the other 7s I've played. The best playing and sounding les paul I've ever played is my studio lite followed closely by my custom lite. The worst guitar (for me) was my jackson soloist made in 91, the neck felt too squared off in the back and the volume knob was in the way constantly. I didn't get the guitar planning to keep it. My wifes care needed $1500 in repairs and it just about broke us. So I took the AX on trade and gave what I thought it was worth which seems like too much from these reviews. I actually asked about this guitar and what others thought because I couldn't believe how well it played. I had always wanted an AX7521 just to have a hardtail 24.75 scale, but dismissed this model as being just about the same as the lower end Gio's that I've checked out at the local music store. Also I have two Charvel Model 6's both made in 87. One has a slim neck and plays great, the other has a neck like a 50's les paul.. Side note... The PRS looked cool and sounded good but the Carvin CT6m KICKS ASS. |
