I don't yet have a seven string, but am quite seriously looking for one, but I'd like to know the opinions of those who have actually been using them for a while...
The style that I like to play is Tech-Metal through to Prog-Metal through to Jazz-Fusion stuff, so I'd like something with a Floyd Rose tremelo, and ideally a H-H configuration, (cos i find the middle one just gets in the way) and with a sound that will fit these styles... Theres a few options I'm looking at, but feel free to suggest something I've never heard of before, if you reckon its worthwhile... At the moment I have a Caparison Horus, and if there was a 7 string version of this, I'd probably just go for that, but there isn't which is a shame... so anyway, I'm kinda partial to this brand, has anyone here had any experience with the Dellinger 7 model? Another which I really like the look of is the Carvin 7 string which i know Tony MacAlpine uses... The other main one would be an Ibanez, but I find the Ibanez 6 string guitars a bit too thin, but maybe the 7 string having a bigger neck anyway would be ideal... i don't know, enlighten me... Anyway, I'm sure there's heaps of other sorts out there, which is why I'm here... ![]() Cheers in advance!

Hi I think were kind of in the same pickle jar lol
I also have a thread going on what 7 to get,,, I think the features on the dellinger 7 make it quite an attractive guitar..especially coil split. do you by chance know where these can be ordered on internet ? its gotta be close to the US though.you got the price on dellinger 7 also? for jazz fusion I think the classy looks on the carvin might feed your need also Last edited by savageshredder; 11-02-2007 at 09:15 AM. I don't think there is much out there that can beat a Carvin. Totally versatile and nothing comes close for the money. This ones got a hum/sin/hum pick up configuration, push/pull pot on tone control splits both neck and bridge pick up, tung oil neck, maple fretboard, rounded body edges, graphite nut, Sperzel locking tuners, a Kahler tremolo system on it and custom highlighter yellow paint with metallic flaked green, blue and purple flames

I'm a new switch--less than a month.
If you want a cheap good seven to try out, get an Agile...but you're in Australia. Dunno. |

i'd suggest the Ibanez RG7620, but your best bet might be to call around all the area shops to see if anyone has anything that you can get your hands on to try out.

From the add it appears you don't want a thin neck, so,
Sounds like you need an Ibanez S7320. The neck on mine has a thicker feel than my S7420's do. Carvins are great, but a little spendy if you get many options. I'm actually hoping to get a Carvin fairly soon (used). But out of all the ones I've seen only a couple have been close enough to what I wanted and they came up after I already bought something else. The other one I would get would be a Schecter Jeff Loomis, but the EMG's might not make you happy. |

I can't give you much advice as I have only tried my 2 Ibanez, the Carvin body style is not my cup of tea but they are definitely the best value for money and they have a lot of fans here.
The only real advice I can give you is don't buy in Australia, especially considering how strong the dollar is. If you buy overseas you will spend between 50 & 70% of what you would if you buy here. Also anything you import under $1000 AUD is import duty free. |

Cheers everyone, I think I would rather find something local so that I can try it out first, I think that would be the best way... The Carvin's do look really nice... I do like the necks thin, just not ridiculously thin like some of the 6 string Ibanez...
The Loomis does look nice, but yeah not really interested in EMG pickups... |

Id recommend an RG1527, its served me very well since the day I got it and I play all the music styles you mentioned (Im currently in a prog-metal band and a reggae band!!) and it has the floyd with coil-tapped H-H configuration.

If you like Caparison, why not the Dellinger 7?

Keep an eye out, people are always selling them, I've seen a few Deep Sea Horii for sale a while back, I'm sure there'll be more around the place at some stage...
