I need a recommendation for replacement pickups - Schecter Elite
The guitar is on its way. Could somebody recommend a humbucker and a single coil replacement pickup?
I mainly play metal tuned B-E. thanks

Mahogany? Evo will slay in that thing (sounds great in my K7)
I've heard good things about the Duncan Custom, but no personal experience. I had a Duncan JB in my C7+ and it had this growly, abbrasive tone. I'd say it would be better in alder, and in mahogany works better for hard rock rather than metal. I'd say the Evo ![]() |

The Blaze single coil is accessible, but somewhat bland. I assume keeping the neck pup in there for now (Drew might have more insight; I know he changed the single coil on his UV).

I played one in an RG (basswood, trem, etc). It was loud as fuck but not as dynamic as the Evo, IMO.
An interesting tone is a Blaze in the bridge - It would work well with a mid-heavy amp. |

I played a mahogany guitar with an X2N in it. It had a little too much bottom end in it, for my tastes anyway, I don't like boomy tone that much. May I suggest you look into a D-sonic, I think that will work a little better in Mahogany.
You shake your ass but you're already dead.

My buddy has a Dsonic in his RG7421XL - it's a baritone and basswood, but it's 'too' clear. I'd like to see it with the bar facing up because it's definitely not my cup o'tea.

me as well....
I bought one lately and after a long wait (it's a lefty...) I was extremely disapointed by the lack of mmm... sound from the duncan designed ones. I'm thinking of either SD SH4-JB or SH6 for the bridge and for the neck there are not so many choiced since it's a single coil - maybe Dimarzio Blaze DP701 or Rio Grande Muy Grande. Any thought? anyone knows them well? THANKS forgot to mention.... it's not very common around but i'm more of a modern jazz player> i am NOT looking for a standrad jazz sound but i need very detailed cleans - with HB tendencies more than a SC ones. the dsonic in mahogany will be better, + you can always neck the bar, and get pure crunch.
you could order a set from seymour duncan, custom, if you dont mind em in black. get a matched humbucker and stacked single (double hum setup, the neck would be single coil sized). it would cost 300 bucks, but they would wind to your specs. Theyre really helpful if you call em.

blaze custom kicks in my guitar, but its got a flamed maple top (over mahogany). Saffron shrimp can chime in (i bought the guitar from him), but the evo i think would be a lot more sensitive and it is a lot more 'zingy'.
The Blaze custom is a lot of crunch and bottom end too, whereas the evo is a lot more mids and highs (also almost twice the output, according to dimarzio) my buddy has the evo in his JS, and thats exactly what its like, but even more middy and high and stuff. Personally, I would really like to try it in a pure- mahogany bodied guitar. with the maple, the added mids and highs arent as nessecary, but I think it might destroy every other pickup in a pure-mahogany setup edit: just in case- the JS is basswood, of course. |
