Bad quality wood on the rg1527???

so.. yesterday some people told me that the basswood used on the rg1527 was a bad quality wood ... they said that because of the lightweight of my rg

... any comments? is this true?

mine sounds great, I don't think it's a bad quality wood, just different. :S

They're full of shit. My 1527 is pretty light and it sounds damn good. It resonates really well, too.

If by "bad quality" they are referring to Basswood in general, they have somewhat of an argument (a lot of people don't like basswood, I don't mind it) but if they mean like, a bad cut of basswood or something, they're most likely full of it. Ibanez has great QC in my experience.*

*Two Ibanez guitars in perfect condition. Grain of salt.

It's personal preference, really. A lot of people don't like basswood as a tone wood. I'm not one of them. True, it's very neutral, and is pretty even across all frequency ranges, but that actually makes it a rather nice tonewood for lead guitar - there's a reason Steve Vai and Joe Satriani both chose basswood for their guitars.

Alder's still my favorite, but in a pinch I'm very happy with basswood.
