Damn spring keeps popping out!!!!
This is to do with the new PWH and it's never happened before on any guitar I've owned, and I used to snap whammy bars...
OK, so before anyone syas "why don't you use the spring retainer" I will point out I use 4 springs to counteract the heavy gauge it's set up with (10->70) and as such 3 springs just doesn't cut it! Anyway, every time I go for some funny whammy stuff one of the springs pops out, and always the same one. Do you reckon it's the string? Anyway, this is the first time I've owned a 7string edge, and it is actually more fun foor whammy stuff, but this keeps happening which is annoying... Could it be the spring, or does anyone have any tips that don't involve the spring retainer bar as I can't mount it with the amount of springs i use... James |

Can't you use the spring retainer with one screw?

You could try that, and it might be enough to hold it in place. I'm guessing you wouldn't need much pressure.
Two guesses - 1.) it could be a bad spring. 2.) it could be a partially stripped out edge block, so that rather than a sharp right angle where the spring enters the block, it's at a slight slant. I don't think a new block would be too expensive, but it might be a PITA to replace - as I recall you have to pull all the string saddles to access the screws that mount the block in place, which means you either need to mark everything perfectly, or redo your intonation when you're finished (not a bad idea, as you're now running what, 11's?) -D

My guess is it's a bad spring. If it's one of the retainer holes, which, as Drew points out, it could be, just try a different hole. But really, the retainers work fine with only one screw.
