What's under my paint...

on my RG7620?

a few questions really...

1. I'm not repainting, I'm wanting a natural wood finish, is that possible with the RG?

2. It's basswood, will that look attractive or will it look like some shmuck's just sanded the paint off?

3. Can i do it myself or is it better to take it to a tech? I've done it before on a guitar, but only to repaint, not to leave as a natural finish, so i wasn't being overly careful. If ure doing it to get the natural finish is there a particular way to do it as to not go too far into the grain?

4. How do you finish it? Is there a particular varnish or laquer required?

1. yes

2. i've read that basswood isn't always void-free, so fillers are used. i don't see any of that in my RG7621, but i'm probably a lucky one.

3. not sure

4. not sure... the previous owner stripped it, not me.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

DeL07 is a jewel in the rough
Basswood, is well sadly, a quite ugly looking wood... I don't recommend a Natural finish on it... It's very bland looking and often has some green-ish spots on it....

If you absolutely want one, go for it, but I don't recommend it...

Up the shut fuck, you must.

Be VERY Careful if you attempt this as Schecters have a super-thin vaneer to get that beautiful top and the rest is the body wood.

As for basswood it is fugly.

Shooter has a spectacular aura about
Couldn't you sand it down to the natural finish and just re-paint it if it does look like crap?

4. I used just regular wood stain from Lowes, and then about 4 layers of matte clear coat.

The other thing to consider is that basswood is really soft. A hard finish helps protect it. I had an old Schecter V-7 that a previous owner had stripped and then amateurishly repainted (which is why I got it dirt cheap). Anyway, it didn't have a hard multi-coated finish over the basswood body, and that damn thing would get dents and dings if you so much as looked at it the wrong way. I could literally dent it with my fingernail.
