Help me decide.

Ok, I have 3 guitars I'm looking at currently. One of them is going to become my first 7 string.

The first is the Ibanez RG7321, which seems to be quite popular around here.

Next up is the Schecter Omen-7.

Finally, there's a Washburn WG587 going on Ebay for around the same price as a new 7321.

I play lots of metal/shred. Big fan of lots of the new prog. metal stuff. And I enjoy a bit of nu-metal as well

So I was wondering what you guys would recommend out of those 3... or even recommend another in the same price range. I'm looking to order some time next week, and as much as I would like to go and try these guitars out, unfortunately most of the shops around me don't stock any 7 strings (and their prices aren't exactly that cheap).

Anyway, cheers. Can't wait to join the 7 string club.

I own an RG7321 and a Schecter A-7. Never tried an Omen or Washburn. The RG7321 and the A-7 are both god guitars for the money, but the stock pickups suck. I've fitted Dimarzios to my RG7321. I don't think you could really go wrong with the RG7321 or the Schecter, but you'll probably want to change the pickups pretty quickly.

I know Eaeolian has a Washburn and loves it, so he might be able to give you some insight on that.

I have one of the USA ones. I know a couple of people that have the WGs, though, and they say they're nice guitars - I've never played one.

I have played the Omen-7, and I liked the 7321 better. Pretty much any of these are going to need the pickups ripped out and replaced with something that doesn't suck...

Personally I love my 7321's...They're so much fun to play. And Ibanez builds quality guitars, I've never had a bad one. Your best bet tho is to try to find each one and play it for a little bit to see which one feels the best to you and make your decision from there...7321 RULZ!!!

RG7321 for the win. As they've all said though - slap a new pair of pickups into it. After that, there's nothing stopping the guitar.

Get the 7321--the ones I've played have been very nice. Maybe the best low-budget seven I've tried. The Omen might be ok, too, but I haven't had the chance to try one out. I do like Schecters, though.

But my advice: stay away from the Washburn WG. The one I've played was a real dog. One of the worst sevens I've ever tried. Maybe it was just that guitar, but I doubt it. There is a reason they are so cheap...

Thanks for the tips guys.

The only problem I have with the 7321 is that it only comes in black... and I've already got an all-black Ibanez.

Oh well Seems like a kickass guitar.

If you can try out one of the cheaper Schecter 7s, such as the Omen or Damien, that might be something to consider. None of our local retailers here carry those models, so I have no idea what they are like, but I really love my C7 Blackjack, and I think that the Schecter Diamond Series guitars have the best quality out of all of the Korean guitars I've tried, including Ibanez.

I owned an Ibanez (not a 7) about 8 years ago that was an absolute pile. I bought the guitar new (if I remember right it was an RG350DX), and within a year the volume and tone pots failed, one of the pickups "failed" (the guy at the store couldn't tell me what was wrong with it), 3 of the tuners broke, and the neck twisted to the point I had to get Ibanez to send me a replacement. All of these "fixes" didn't cost me anything, unless you count stress, frustration, and times spent without a guitar to play. I haven't even considered an Ibanez since until I decided to play 7's exclusively about 1 year ago (but still haven't bought an Ibanez 7 yet). I know that the 6er that I had was Korean made, after that experience I don't think I would consider another one if it wasn't Japanese.
