hey guys, i'm new here. well, i'm new registration wise...I've been lurking a while. Recently picked up this 1998 UV777:

a beautiful guitar (ignore the ugly dude playing it please)! I love the way it sounds and plays, but there's one very odd thing about it - when I'm playing it distorted, and stop playing quickly (for example, ending a song on a low power chord and quickly muting it), there's a sustaining, ringing out tone afterwards for about a second. Almost sounds like the guitar is still vibrating. The only way I can get it to stop is to immediately cut my volume right after the song - even palm muting doesn't stop the vibration (this makes me wonder if it's coming from the bridge). I've tried cutting the gain, messing with my settings - it's NOT feedback, and it's not coming from the strings. It's like the guitar is...too resonant, or something.

Obviously, this makes syncopated "jug-jug" parts sound like i'm not playing tight enough, and is just generally annoying. I've never had any guitar do this...anyone else experienced this? What can I do?

Oh yes, and the tremelo is blocked. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. thanks guys!

Its your trem springs.

Mine does the same. Either place foam underneath them, or, if your into quick and easy fixes, put a strip of electrical tape about 1" to 2" along each spring, either lengthwise or sideways.

it kills the vibrations, and mine is dead now. Great for chuggerry.

Welcome to the forum. What stitch said, put some foam under the springs.

and after you´ve foamed the springs, or muted them in any other way, put a piece of foam above the nut, so the strings get muted after they pass the locking nut... that way they won´t ring up there either, maybe not a problem when playing amplified, but i feel it makes for a cleaner less messy sound... it´s very usefull when you don´t have a locking nut anyways
