the thicker the strings you put on, the higher your bass frequencies go. Like for instance, when i use Daddarios 10-59 for B standard, the B has that really DJENT kind of sound, like when you hear Dino playing staccato'd open notes, however, when I detune to A using 11-49 + 60 for the A, my bass goes through the roof and starts to get muddy. The cure you say? Lower your pickup about one complete turn from what it was, and itll get ridd of that extra bass and clean your sound up a bit.

just my two cents

Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL

Nice will try that. Aching to go back up to 64 with a 10-52 six string set.

i use a .52 for B and .54 for A. I really like the heaviness you get with flabby strings. They're not as flabby as people make out either, actually quite taught. I get a lot of control out of them.

it's funny you mentioned you get a sound like Dino with your 59 soldierkahn, cos he uses a .52 for B also. Must just be the way his tone's set up.

a 54 for A? Does that intonate?

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

I think his guitars also have a 27" scale, so that 52 probably feels like a 60.

Yeah, Dino swears by light strings, but hes also one of the lucky ones that has mastered Machine Gun speed with feather light pick attack. And i do agree whole heartedly about using the lighter gauge as far as tone is concerned, i used to use 10-46 to tune to Drop C for cryin out loud, lol. But when Ragen introduced me to the world of speed picking, i just had to increase my gauge. Im one of the unlucky few that has a MONSTER pick attack. But since ive been playing that way my whole life, its incredibly hard to teach myself light touch.

I thought i was gonna die when i saw Rick's face after he asked me what gauge i used, since i have the extended scale. He uses 10-59 for A Standard on his 7420, but i use 11-49 + 60 for A standard. granted, i can absolutely use 10-59 for A standard, has enough tension, but i like my strings tight as hell. i pick fast as a mother f*** so i need that string to return to center immediately, lol.

BTW - Using light gauge strings is what gives you that Uber Djent that you hear in the intro for Linchpin and uhhhh Digimortal. Thats what i like my tone to sound like the majority of the time.
