An idea I am toying with

Well, seeing as I am enjoying my current state of gear flux with selling the bits I don't want oer use and hence the idea of a few modifications, or, well, one modification in particular comes to mind.

Basically I really do think that short of the Blaze Custom I have on order totally changing my mind that I just don't like mahogony bodied guitars. That is, without maple.

Now, the guitar in question is my 2027. It plays great, and somedays sounds great, but there's something missing.

So what does everyone reckon to a replacement body? Say with a nice maple quilt on it, and what woods would everyone recommend? I definately want the headstock bookmatched as well and keep the existing neck.

So yes, fire away those wood suggestions!

Also, does anyone know if it's possible to modify a neck to reverse the headstock, ie, keep the neck, but maybe introduce a scarf joint with reverse headstock? This may all be a bit too much though (the last part!)

The Chaos has come:

I've always thought that alder's about perfect for a seven - good bass coupled with very clear highs, a recipe for hellacious definition...

Very nearly did that myself, when I used to play a 2027.

With the amount of coin 2027's are getting right now, why not just sell it for something more befitting what you're looking for?

I agree with Chris. I think a custom job would probably be affordable the 2027 fetched a decent price. Difference in price between how much you'd make and how much it would cost could be how much you'd have to spend to get a replacement body, so it's worth looking into.

I'm surprised you don't like the sound of a mahogany 7. Are you sure it's not just the pickups?

I personally think Mahogany is the best wood for any electric solid-body guitar, and I have owned 2 7-string mahogany guitars and I currently own 1 mahogany 7-string and 1 six-string mahogany guitar.

Maybe the problem lies in your amp, settings, or pickups? Maybe your strings are too high off the pickups you're using and you're not getting enough gain from them because of that.

I'm just throwing out ideas at you, and I don't know you personally, so if any of these sound like I'm condescending, I don't mean to be. I just question anyone who says a mahogany guitar isn't good enough. IMO, it's ideal.

Well, there is that option, BUT:

1)Finding another 7 with piezos in a floyd? = nah (unless it's a CST)
2)It'll be cheaper to get the body modded than to get a CST, AND I'll get the colour I want on it (I was always jealous of the 2127! it being black and more metal looking an all)
3)Purple is the colour of despeartion, hence that is what colour I want it to be

I don't want to sell it basically :p

I don't know to be honest, but the RGT I just sold had to me a bit odf the same, it sounded cool and all, but just missed a crispness and high end if that makes sense. Basically it was cool and heavy as fuck for rythm playing, but soloing/lead wise it missed that certain "sparkle" and life :/

It may be the pickups, I've always had issues with Direct mount as you can never height adjust them without going through a shitload of hassle. Never understood why they didn't just put springs under them (like foam vs springs is going to make much difference)
